No one ever promised anyone a perfect government. Even the founding fathers knew this crap was crazy, and could get crazier, and built in a few pretty decent safeguards. No, the democracy isn’t perfect, but it’s working a hell of a lot better than a lot of other places, and we’re all to some extent benefiting by it. You don’t have to love this system, and technically you don’t have to participate
– but it’d be a better place if a lot of people stopped wishing that America were Burger King and you got your way all the time — and instead read a history book, put on your big kid underpants and freaking pay attention for a couple of hours every two or so years to try to make this place a bit better than it was yesterday, by voting.
