4708 Discussion: Question 1 : THE FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGIES

Question 1.: THE FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGIES

We've been up and down the "soft" skills that are necessary- what about "hard" topics?, i.e. names of particular technologies?
(this could be languages, or inventions, etc — anything SPECIFIC and TECHNOLOGICAL)
  1. Which are the most interesting to you?
  2. Which do you believe have the strongest future, generally?
  3. Which do you believe will be the most important to you?

As you answer the above, please consider how "provable" your ideas are, and make note of that, especially if you believe either A) it's very obvious to a lot of people or B) it is NOT very obvious to a lot of people.

Question 2: IS THE WEB IMPORTANT? IF SO, HOW?

- What role does the web play for you now?
- What roles do you believe it will play for your career (and life) in the future?
- To the extent you believe that the (open) web is NOT important, what has or will replace it and why?

Question 3: WHAT YOUR IR MEANS TO YOU.

Do you think it will be important to your career?
If no, well, you have to do it. How can you make it as useful to yourself as possible, since you do HAVE to do it?
Provide at least two "web technologies" that I have not named that may be useful (e.g. engines, templates, javascript libraries), with examples if possible.
